Ryōnosuke was both a painter and printmaker who included birds in more than ten of his woodblock and intaglio prints. Sixteen examples of these prints are shown below. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Ryōnosuke drew his birds in a modern, creative way by distorting their shapes and simplifying their true colours. Consequently, a bird’s identity is often difficult to determine.
